Enjoy. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ********* Mass Destruction Vale Tudo IV I attended the NAGA (www.nagafighter.com) Mass Destruction IV event Saturday night in Wildwood, NJ. Twenty-two professional fighters from the Northeast competed in front of nearly 600 people on this electrified card! "It had decisions, submissions and a great KO," said Andy Doe, Tai-Kai (www.tai-kai.com), Syracuse, NY. All of the competitors did very well in the ring and deserve props. Kipp Kollar, NAGA Promoter, was Referee for the night and the beautiful Stephanie Stokes (www.stephaniestokes.com) was Ring Announcer. Joe Cuff, NAGA Matchmaker, wants to "thank all of the fighters and fans who fought and attended this show, all of you made this a great night." The final fight of the night was for the Welterweight Title, where Zack Wakeman, of Tai-Kai, Syracuse, NY, defeated Stephen Haigh of Fight Factory, Philadelphia, PA, by KO to become the new NAGA Welterweight Champion. "Congrats to Zack on his new title," said Cuff, "this kid is a machine and you will hear his name much more in the future." Mass Destruction V, featuring Fight Factory stand out Pierre Guillet in a heavyweight title match against Jorge Rivera takes place on Saturday, November 3, 2001.Quick Results:

There were about 750 people in attendance, many of whom came to see UFC vet Jeremy Horn as he took on Dan "The Wolfman" Theodore. After all of the problems the week before with the council, many of the fights ended as soon as one fighter was knocked down for the first time. Or any time a fighter was dominating another, even if the person was defending himself. 1. Eric Aasen (Minnesota Martial Arts Academy 184 lbs) def. Dave Warren (Bloomington, Mn 180 lbs) by KO at 2:02 in R1. Both guys started by circling each other. Aasen was able to use some low kicks to keep Warren at a distance, and he was more effective with landing his bunches. Both guys tried to throw, and Aasen got a jab through Warrens block that made him wary. Aasen tried to clinch, but Warren got away and threw a combination that didnt connect. Aasen then threw another low kick, but Warren just too the blow and threw a good left hand that connected. Aasen staggered, but then was able to grab Warrens head. If knees were legal, he could have landed a couple there and knocked Warren out. Warren got free and tried to throw more punches. He started to get really tired, and Warren let him continue to throw wild blows that didnt connect. As sson as he was completely gassed, Aasen unloaded, and landed a right that sent Warren to his knees, with his head drooped over the second rope. 2. Chris Fontaine (Winnipeg, Canada 198 lbs) def Jeramie Larson (St Cloud, Mn 191 lbs) in 3:53 of R1 Fontaine is a top notch fighter, and lost a very close decision in his last appearance for UWM back in June that many say he should have won. Larson came out punching. Fontaine quickly countered with a few punches so Larson tried to wrap him up. He had his hand behind Fontaines head and could have landed a few knees too if it was legal. Fontaine got away when Larson tried to throw a couple of wild punches, and then Fontaine started to back peddle. Larson tried to followed him and got caught with a low kick perfectly placed behind his knee. Larson looked good and was really light on his feet, while Fontaine looked really nervious and like he was afraid that he would be hit. If I didnt know better, I would have thought Larson to be the more experienced of the two, based soley on his demeanor. Larson tried to shoot in, but Fontaine ended up falling through the ropes. Once they were sepperated, Larson unloaded with a flury of punches but Fontaine snuck a right jab in that sent Larson into the ropes. Fontaine threw a few punches from behind while Larson was on the ropes, and then the bell sounded. It wasnt clear if the promoter run the bell or if the corner threw in the towel, but I never saw a towel. The fight was stopped and Fontaine was declared the winner. The crowd was not at all happy, especially when it was never made clear why the fight was stopped. 3. Joel Zimmerman (Cannon Falls, Mn 231 lbs) def Steve Gillas (Grantsberg, Wi 241 lbs.) by KO in :12 of R1. Both of these heavyweights looked like they came to brawl. Zimmerman shot in with a right hand but seemed to lose his gooting and ended up pushing Gillas all the way back to the ropes. He grabbed Gillas shirt and started to unload with right hands. And least three or four hand to connect with Gillas face before the final one knocked him out. 4. Haythem Khalis (Blaine, Mn 156 lbs) def Travis Plant (St Paul, Mn -150 lbs) by ref stoppage at :32 in R1 Haythem came out to a nice pop from the crowd, and looked impressive last month when he stepped up in weight class at the last minute to fight Mike Gritti. Plant started by shooting in but Khalis caught him and slammed him to the mat. Plant wrapped his arm around Haythems head and wouldnt let go, so from the side mount, Khalis got to his knees and lifted Plant up and slammed him. When Plant still wouldnt let go, Khalis got to his feet and slammed him to the mat a third time. Then he rolled over into the mount and started to punch. After a few punches, the ref stepped in and again. Plant was not happy that the fight was stopped, but with the rules the way they were, that was the way it was. 5. Marty Lindquist (Blaine, Mn 175 lbs) over Thadus Romberg (St Paul, Mn 184 lbs) by TKO in :21 of R1. Youd have to see Romberg to believe him. Bald head, nerd glasses, breath-rite and tattoos. In his pre-fight interview for the DVD, he said he could not tell us where he trains. Take that for what it is. Romberg came out trying to punch and backed Lindquist into the corner. He then tried to do some kind of rolling punch, like he was fighting a speed bag. That just angered Lindquist, who quickly came out of the corner. As soon as Lindquist showed any fire, Rombrerg ran like he was scared. After two quick punches, Romberg fell down and stayed down. 6. Mark Lowery (West Metro Boxing, Mn 280 lbs) def. Dan Pella (Pierz, Mn 238 lbs.) in 2:15 of R1. Lowery had a big weight and experience advantage. Pella had a height advatage. Both guys started by trading punches, though neither really landed. Lowery went for a big roundhouse and Pella tied him up. They struggled a bit and ended up falling to the mat with Pella in on top in the guard. Pella threw right hand after right trying to open the guard, while Lowery was able get in a few good licks punching up from the guard. This went on for about a minute before Lowery tried to roll Pella over. He only got him about ¼ of the way before they ended up in the ropes. The ref stopped them and stood them up. When he went to check on Pella before the restart, Pella said he could not continue.
7. Sam Morgan (Bison Grappling, Mn - 190 lbs) def. Joe Sheppard (175 lbs) by ref stoppage at :46 in R1. Morgan won a couple of big matches earlier this year in UWM, but he was coming off a loss to UFC vet Adrain Serrano. This was one of Sheppards first MMA fights, and experience was a factor. Morgan went right in and tied him up, and then used his leg to trip Sheppard and take him to the mat. Morgan slipped behind him and delievered a pretty nice belly-to-back suplex. He ended up trying to clamp a bear hug on Sheppard from behind, so Sheppard got up to his feet to try and escape. Morgan suplexed him again and then started to punch Sheppard in the back of the head. The ref quickly stepped in and stopped the fight. When Sheppard got up, he was visablely upset that he never stood a chance in the fight. 8. Mike Gritti (Minneapolis, Mn 180 lbs.) def. Nate "Sky" Svejovsky (Shorview, Mn 175 lbs) by TKO in :23 of R1. This was Svejovskys second and last MMA fight, as he vowed that he was done with MMA after this fight. Gritti had a solid wrestling background and was able to take him down quickly and dominate him on the mat. Gritti started by shooting in, picking Sky up and slamming him to the mat. He stayed on top of him and was able to ground and pound Sky for about 10 seconds before the ref jumped in and stopped it. He landed at least three punches right in Skys face and two more punches to his face. Brad Kohler entered the ring and introduced Jennifer Howe, who was scheduled to fight Amber Starr on the show. Starr was unable to make the show, so Howe was introduced and she said she hopped to be back to fight again. 9. Jeremy Horn (Militich Fighting System) def. Dan "The Wolfman" Theodore by KO at 1:41 in R2 Horn said before the fight he was trying to get back into condition for his first PRIDE fight and that he would be taking his time. Theodore was out to make a name for himself and looked like he had fire in his eyes. Horn started out very cautious, while Theodore tried to connect with big punches. Horn tied him up and Theodore backed Horn up into the ropes. Theodore threw a knee that looked to be low, and so Horn started throwing his own knees. Theodore tried to break from the clinch, but Horn was able to keep it locked. They kept trying to trade knees until the ref broke them up. Horn tried to throw a mid kick and Theodore countered with a high kick that hit Horn right in the head. You could see the change in Horns attitude the moment it connected, as he started to realize that Theodore was a threat. Horn then decided to clinched him again and wait out the round. The second round started with Horn going for a high kick. Theodore rushed Horn while he was off balance and threw a flury of rights and lefts, backing up Horn all the way to the other side of the ring and into the ropes. Theodore jumped on top of him and tried for a guillotine, but Horn was able to pick him up and then fall on top of him. Horn controlled Theodore while on top in the full mount and went for an armbar. He worked at that for about a minute before Theodore was able to slip out underneath Horn. Both guys got to their feet and Horn grabbed Theodore again. This time, he stuck his head behind Theodores head and brought it down to meet his knee. Theodore was out instantly. Pancrase 2001 Proof Tour 10/30 Tokyo, Japan At The Korakuen Hall
